Current Needs

Prayer

We appreciate your prayers for us as we minister in Ukraine.  Here are some specific prayer requests:

bulletWisdom in deciding what would be the best housing option for our family.
bulletPray for those who participated in the Timothy Leadership Training that they would apply the teaching to their congregations.  Specifically, the goal is that these leaders would teach other church members how to care for those in the congregation.
bulletPray for the Christian Reformed Church in Mukachevo, the church plant that we are working with, for growth in numbers, deeper commitment of members and regular attendees.
bulletPraise God for providing land for the church.  Pray that God will grant the Mukachevo congregation wisdom for a building plan that will meet all the needs and constraints.
bulletPraise God that one of our greatest long-term needs for a local person who can share the teaching and preaching responsibilities for the congregation has been provided!  Robert Shpontak is now serving as an intern in the Mukachevo congregation and George is mentoring him as he continues his studies at the Reformed Seminary in Kyiv.
bulletOur spiritual growth - that we may daily take time to be with God in prayer and reading His word and grow in our spiritual walk with the Lord.  It is easy to be worn down and over-committed in doing "good work" for God and at the same time neglect our own spiritual health.
bulletPhysical health - that we would all remain healthy.  We are thankful that Matthew's asthma seems under control with regular steroid treatments and allergy medications.

Financial

bulletRegular support -  For the 2009-2010 fiscal year ending in June 2010, The total cost of keeping a missionary family on the field is

$112,875.00. We are challenged to raise at least 60% of that cost.  As of the end of April we have received $56,290.

Please consider if you're able to contribute towards this need.  Contributions towards our support can be sent to CRWM, 2850 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, MI  49560, and designate it as "de Vuyst support".  You may also contribute online at www.crwm.org/donate.

bullet

Special Giving -

In addition to our general support, there are special projects which need financial support.  You can also contribute toward our special projects for leadership development or pastor assistance for Robert Shpontak.  These special projects are listed in CRWM's "Project Giving Guide".

bullet

Leadership Development Grants$2000  As we strive to develop healthy Reformed congregations in Ukraine, we also want to help new congregations develop good ministries to reach out to their communities with the Good News of Jesus Christ.  These grants are used for training elders, church retreats, and summer outreach events in newly formed Ukrainian Reformed congregations in the cities of Mukachevo and Ivano-Frankivsk.

bullet

Local Missionary Pastor Salary Support - $2400 Ukraine is very economically depressed and the global economic crisis is hitting the country hard.  It is very difficult for congregations to support their own pastors, and even more so in missionary settings.  This grant helps pay half the salary of a missionary-pastor in Ukraine.

You can contribute to these needs by check, credit card, or online donation.  Please be sure to be specific in your designation by writing "Ukraine leadership development grant" or "Ukraine local pastor support."

All contributions are handled through the CRWM office at 2850 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, MI  49560.  Contact Marcea Holtrop at 616-224-0702 with questions.  Online donations can be made at www.crwm.org/donate.
