Mukachevo Minutes

The prayer letter of George and Sarah de Vuyst from Mukachevo, Ukraine

October 2007

Bundle of Blessing

Our precious daughter, Elizabeth Anne, was born September 11 weighing 8 pounds 13 ounces.  Now a month later it seems so normal to have a baby in the home although we haven’t quite become accustomed to getting up two or three times a night.  Abigail and Matthew have accepted her with open arms, loud voices, and slobbery kisses!

On the “Home” Front

We are presently in the middle of our three month home service in the U.S.  It has been very encouraging to visit with partnering churches and share in person about the ministry in Ukraine.  We are reminded what a blessing it is to serve God together with so many other members of God’s family who stand with us to “proclaim the Gospel to more and more people who have not heard it” (World Mission’s vision statement).

Abigail is enrolled in preschool five mornings a week at Millbrook Christian School.  She loves her teachers and learning about God’s world.  This will be one thing she will miss when we return to Ukraine.  The education system in Ukraine is very poor and there is nothing in our area that compares.  All the more we desire to see a Christian kindergarten opened in our town through the congregation in Mukachevo.

When Matthew isn’t wishing he were old enough to go to preschool and ballet lessons like Abigail, he plays with his Thomas train, cars, and airplanes.  He refers to Elizabeth as “my baby” but doesn’t understand why she spends so much time in Mom’s arms.

Back Home – The Real Home

Due to internet phoning we are able to talk regularly with the head elder of the congregation in Mukachevo.  He reports that everything is going well with the congregation.  Sunday school has started back up and the weekly Bible studies are continuing.  Unfortunately, city hall still has not made any decisions about the church’s request for land for a church building.  Ukraine went through parliamentary elections on September 30 which is one excuse for the slow response.  Please continue to keep this matter in prayer.

Prayer and Praise Points

Praise God with us for:

*   Encouraging visits with partner churches

*   Good reports from Ukraine that the ministry is continuing in our absence

*   The safe arrival of Elizabeth

Pray with us for:

*    A response from city hall about the church’s request for land

*    The ability to communicate clearly about the ministry in Ukraine to our partner churches

*    Continued growth and development in the congregation in Mukachevo

In partnership with you,
